December 9, 1954
     Christmas story in music featured-The Christmas Story in music was presented by the High School Band and Chorus at the meeting of the Junior-Senior PTA Tuesday night in the high school auditorium. The chorus has 40 members and the band 85 members. Both are under the direction of John Buchanan. Don Shepp introduced the performers. David McCord read the Christmas story from the Bible with the band chorus providing a beautiful rendition in music giving a sacred meaning to the Christmas season. Feature soloists were Juanita White, David Beard, Morris Smith and Neil Hess, with piano accompaniment by Kay Cartwright, Sue Ann Stokes and Billy John Knight.

December 12, 1954
     Gala Christmas party for Girl Scout Troop-Girl Scout Troop Number Four, with their leaders and council women celebrated the season at a gala Christmas party Wednesday night at the Bunyan Price residence. In Biblical costumes the girls enacted the Nativity Scene around a small manger, with Mary Price as Mary and Sherri Culp representing Joseph. Mary Jo Smith acted as narrator. After distribution of gifts from the Christmas tree, refreshments of punch and holiday cookies were served by council women Mesdames Nellie Fischer, Charlie Suche, Elsie Smith and Tommy Sears. The fun concluded with the sings of carols led by Mrs. James Craig and Mrs. Frank Sutherland. Additional mothers present were Mrs. Henry Culp and Mrs. J. S. Smith.
     Choristers present concert-The Uvalde Choristers, directed by Mrs. P. C. McCord and sponsored by Southwest Texas Junior College presented their annual Christmas concert Monday night at the high school auditorium. Members with solo parts included Mr. and Mrs. Leon Walton, Mrs. John Beard, Houston Foster, Mrs. Jay Whitecotton and Mrs. William Ballard.

December 12, 1954
     Weaver promoted-Gene C. Weaver, 21, whose wife lives in Junction, recently was promoted to corporal while serving with the 1st Infantry Division in Germany. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Weaver, 608 E. Nopal, Uvalde, and is a computer in the 26th Regiment's Heavy Mortar Company.
     Hargrove completes training-Pvt. Murray Hargrove, son of Richard Hargrove, Uvalde, has completed the Medical Training Center's 8-week course of advanced basic training at Brooke Army Medical Center. Pvt. Hargrove entered the Army last February.

December 30, 1954
     Sports round-up-College press releases have been coming in lately notifying us of letters earned in football by former UHS Coyotes. Texas Lutheran College listed Gerald Evetts, former all-district guard for Uvalde among 21 athletes who were awarded letters. Jon Harrell lettered his second year at Schriener Institute and Bobby Gibbens earned his numeral at Southwest Texas.
     Awards highlight annual football banquet-The annual football banquet financed and sponsored by the Uvalde High School Pep Squad was held Dec. 21 at the high school cafeteria. Sarah Haby was named football sweetheart and presented a sweetheart bracelet and a bouquet of roses by Roy Young. Bob Powers was chosen as Pep Squad beau and Cathy Evans presented him with cuff links and a matching shirt and tie. Gene Maddox was named the best blocker and Roy Young the most outstanding back for the season. Ruth Daniel presented Bill Dillahunty with the annual scrap book, a prize sought by all members of the team.
