Representatives from the Uvalde High School Alumni Association met July 31 at the home of Nathalie Campbell Patton to make plans for a June Jubilee Summer Homecoming for all UHS classes to be held June 10-12, 2005.
Alumni association president David Beard along with Barbara Sears Elrod, chairperson for the upcoming event, led the brainstorming session.
Keeping in mind the twofold purpose of the group to help promote and expedite communication between all former students of UHS and to provide scholarships to benefit graduates each year beginning with 2004, the group planned recreational activities, opportunities for visiting, and discussed fundraising for the scholarship fund.
Activities discussed included a golf tournament, skeet and trap shooting, arts and crafts show, shopping, breakfasts, lunch and a grand fiesta for Saturday evening, as well as time for individual classes to get together. For fund-raiser, possible ideas included the sale of T-shirts and a drawing.
Present at the meeting in addition to Patton, Beard and Elrod, were Quin McWhirter, Mary Evelyn Little Sobeiski, Betty Smith Sparks, Billie Mae Johnson Studer, Sue Finley, Valjean Howard Fountain, Gary Heyen, George Speir, Terry Harrison, Ray and Virginia Rhodes and Beverly Spillar Pennington.
The group encouraged all ex-UHS students to go online to the webpage UHSalumni.com to stay informed of classmates' activities and to join the association to help promote the goals of the group as a way of remaining always "Loyal and True."
